American-born singer-songwriter Kesha owes her popularity to talent, hard work, and perseverance. For the first time, she attracted attention with her unpaid and uncredited performance on Flo Rida’s song Right Round, which became a hit in 2009. Kesha is also an ordained minister and gay rights activist – she supports them by joining the Rainbow Fellowship in Marriage and also speaks out against the violation of gay rights.

Kesha: Biography

Kesha was born on March 1, 1987, in Los Angeles. She attended both Brentwood High School and Franklin High School, where her unconventional nature made it difficult for her to fit into the academic environment. The rising star only felt useful when she played musical instruments such as the saxophone or trumpet in the school’s marching band. After landing a music publishing contract, Kesha’s mother moved the family to Nashville, Tennessee in 1991.

The young singer learned the art of songwriting from her mother, who patiently sat with her, discussed, and wrote songs. Kesha’s mother, Pebe, is a songwriter best known for writing Old Flames Can’t Hold a Candle to You, which later became a hit.

As she grew up, Kesha always answered with ambiguity when confronted with questions about her sexuality. In 2013, she told Seventeen Magazine that she loves not only men but also people, and that gender should not be an issue.

Kesha Career & Net Worth

Kesha has accumulated a total net worth of $5 million, although the amount is still under review. She has successfully sold her records both in the USA and worldwide. In 2013, the statistics of her record sales totaled 59 million for America and 76 million worldwide.

The singer started working for Dr. Luke’s music label called Kemosabe Entertainment at the age of 18. She also appeared in the music video of her friend Katy Perry for I kissed a Girl. She was featured as a background singer in Britney Spears’ Lace and Leather, which was produced by Dr. Luke, but her big break came with Flo Rida’s #1 hit Right Round, which was released in 2009. She then signed a contract with RCA and her debut single Tik Tok was released. Her first album called Animal made it to the top of the charts after its release in 2010. Two years later, in 2012, her second album entitled Warrior came to light and was also a success. However, 2014 was not a good year for the artist as that was when her ongoing legal battles with producer Dr. Luke began.

The entertainer has also taken some trips into acting; she made her television debut on the set of the cartoon comedy series Robot Chicken in 2013. In 2015 she appeared in a single episode of Jane the Virgin and in the same year she had a small role in the musical fantasy movie Jem and the Holograms. She also appeared as a guest star on the popular television show Nashville.

Weight Gain

The talk about the weight gain of the entertainer has done more harm than one can imagine. Kesha’s health was threatened by the media interest in her weight, and it was so difficult to cope with that she found refuge in a rehabilitation center because of a resulting eating disorder. She struggled with anorexia and bulimia resulting from all the criticism of her new robust figure. Even her producer, Dr. Luke, cruelly compared her body to that of a refrigerator and asked her to lose some weight after he signed her. This particularly careless remark worsened the singer’s condition and almost drove her out of her mind. Kesha had to spend two months in rehab and was released on March 6, 2014.

Where Is She Now?

The singer is still active with her music and television appearances. Since her release from rehab, she has been performing at Coachella and has been a guest in the series Jeff and some aliens. She also appeared in a fantasy movie called A Ghost Story, which was her debut on the big screen. Kesha is expected to play a lead role in the upcoming animated series entitled Highly Gifted.
