We are talking about leading women in swimming, and the name Katinka Hosszu would be the first to be mentioned. The Hungarian professional swimmer Katinka Hosszu holds many world records in swimming, especially in all-around swimming. She has participated in four summer Olympic competitions (2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016) and has been an Olympic champion three times. In 2014, 2015, and 2016 she won the title of FINA Swimmer of the Year at least four times. The seven-time long-distance world champion holds the world record for 100 m, 200 m, and 400 m in individual cross-country as well as for 100 m backstroke and 200 m backstroke both in the short course. No other swimmer in the world, male or female, has won at least one million dollars in prize money from swimming apart from Katinka Hosszu.
Katinka Hosszu Biography
Katinka Hosszú was born on May 3, 1989, in Pécs (Hungary) as the daughter of Barbara Bakos and István Hosszú. She showed a passion for swimming from an early age and was trained by her grandfather László Bakos until she was 13 years old. Dave Salo became her next coach, and soon Hosszu started competing as a teenager, and at the age of 15, she won her first medal, a bronze medal over 400 m at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in 2004.
She took part in the 2009 World Championships and won 2 bronze medals in the 200 m medley and the butterfly. At the end of 2009 Hosszu was named Hungarian Sportswoman of the Year. Her career experienced a steady rise before reaching its low point in 2012, when she was unable to win a medal at the 2012 Beijing Olympics, her first Olympics. Tamás Gyárfás, the chairman of the Hungarian Swimming Federation, even advised Hosszu to resign, but she was not deterred.
Hosszu later asked her friend, former American professional swimmer Shane Tusup, to become her coach. With Tusup, Hosszu was able to revive her career, realize her dreams of becoming an Olympic and world champion, and break and set many records. Today she is coached by Árpád Petrov.

Katinka Hosszu was married to Shane Tusup for five years between 2013 and 2018. They had met at the University of Southern California in 2009 when they were both freshmen. Shortly thereafter, they began to meet and in 2012, after Hosszu was frustrated with her average performance at the 2012 London Olympics, she asked Tusup to become her coach.
Tusup became Hosszu’s husband in 2013. Their marriage seemed very happy considering the many social media posts Tusup wrote, often raving about his love for Hosszu. But in 2017, a year after they started their own swimming club, Iron Aquatics in Hungary, the couple announced that their relationship was facing a difficult time. As a result, the couple separately attended one of the major swimming awards ceremonies in Hungary.
Their then-husband Tusup had said that they would make things right, but they never got to the heart of their problems as things have only gotten worse since then. Rumors about their relationship swirled around before Hosszu confirmed in May 2018 that she would no longer work with Tusup as a coach, but she didn’t talk about her marital status.
She made the announcement through her Facebook page and stated that she and Tusup were unable to resolve the “personal problems” of the heir. Tusup, who was the administrator of her Facebook page, would later delete the page, but Hosszu, with the help of activist and women’s rights activist Matan Uziel, was able to regain control of her Facebook page, where she has over half a million followers.
While Hosszu kept her announcement very professional and didn’t reveal any details about the reason for her breakup, Tusup took extreme pains to wash her dirty laundry in social media. In a long letter published in social media, Tusup said the reason for the separation was Hoszu’s infidelity. He claimed that Hosszu had had an illicit affair with her training partner Daniel Dudas.

Tusup explained how he noticed an overnight strain in their relationship and how Hosszu constantly attributed this to his character. He concluded his message by saying that he never believed that Hosszu really loved him, but only admired his commitment to her career. He said he felt “manipulated” and “deceived”. Hosszu did not respond to her ex-husband’s allegations.
The couple had no children together.
