For her 2012 album Where I Find You she also received a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Album. Kari Jobe Bio

The singer of contemporary Christian music was born on April 6, 1981, in Waco, Texas, United States of America, as Kari Brooke Jobe. She was raised by her parents, Mark and Caroline “Sandy” (née Bragg) Jobe in Watauga and later Hurst, both cities in the state of Texas. Kari Jobe, who was born in a Christian home and gave her life to Christ at the age of 5.

She had started singing at the age of three, and her Christian faith was to influence her music. Kari Jobe tried to become a gospel preacher at a tender age. To realize her dreams she attended the famous Oral Robert University. She also enrolled at both the Christ for the Nations Institute and Dallas Baptist University, earning degrees in Pastoral Studies and Psychology.

Throughout her time at the university, Kari Jobe continued to develop her music. During her studies at Christ for the Nations Institute, she got her first taste of fame with her performance of the “Revelation Song”, which was later to be included on the debut album of Gateway Worship. She had been attending Gateway Church in Texas for 6 years when she was called up by the church to serve as an assistant pastor after graduation.

As a pastor at Gateway Church, Kari Jobe was involved in international mission projects and worked most of the time alongside her father Mark. In 2003, three years after the founding of Gateway Church, music lovers from the church formed the Gateway Worship Music Band, and Kari Jobe became one of the leaders of the band. Their first studio album, “Unsearchable” was released in 2003, after which they released their first live album “Living for You” in 2006. Their second live album “Wake Up the World”, released in 2008, reached the top 2 positions in the Billboard Christian Album Charter. Walls, her sixth live album, released in 2015, also topped the charts.

In addition to singing with Gateway, Kari Jobe also worked on solo projects. She released a self-titled compilation album, a live concert album, and a Christmas album before releasing her first self-titled studio album in February 2009, which topped the Billboard charts at number 200. At the end of the year, Jobe won several awards and was nominated for the Dove Award as the best new artist.

Jobe’s music career has only gotten better since then. Where to Find You (2012) and Majestic (2014) led the Christian charts, while The Garden (2017) became their first number 1 album in the UK.

Husband and Family Life

Kari Jobe is married to Cody Carnes, a fellow gospel musician. Like Kari, Cody has loved music since childhood. As a teenager, he started leading worship and played with a number of Christian bands such as Hit the Ground Running and Crimson Soul. He then joined Gateway Church and became part of their Gateway Worship Band, where he met Kari Jobe.

The couple announced their engagement through an Instagram post in August 2014, and they were married on November 21, 2014.

After singing and co-writing songs with his wife, Cody began a solo career in February 2017 and signed a contract with Capitol CMG. He released “The Cross Has the Final Word” as his debut single. The Darker the Night/The Brighter the Morning, released in September 2017, was his debut solo album. He introduced Kari on the title Till the end of time.

The couple entered the Dove Awards 2015 together and walked down the red carpet to announce that they were expecting their first baby. Their first son Canyon Carnes arrived on February 18, 2016. Kari said that God gave her the name of her son even before the boy was born. She explained that Canyon means a deep canyon through which water flows and is usually created by storms.

In June 2018 Kari announced that she and her husband were expecting their second child. For the announcement, Kari went to Instagram to publish a photo of the young Canyon with “BIG BROTHER” written in chalk on the sidewalk. Kari revealed in the caption of the post that the baby would arrive in February 2019.

The family lives in their home in Nashville, Texas.
