Jade Thirlwall is a member of the four-piece English girl band Little Mix. The group had an extremely successful debut album, DNA, which climbed to number 3 in the British charts. The album also made it to #4 on the US Billboard 200, the highest ever achieved on a British girl group debut.
After two unsuccessful attempts to sign Britain’s X Factor as a solo act, Thirlwall teamed up with three other singers to form the group in the eighth season of the competition. The group was the first group to win the X-Factor, as all other winners were solo acts.

The highly talented singer was born on December 26, 1992, as Jade Amelia Thirlwall, the daughter of parents James Thirlwall and Norma Badwi. Her mother worked as a school administrator.
Jade Thirlwall is of English and Arabic descent, but the singer of Little Mix describes herself as a quarter Yemeni and quarter Egyptian.
Her father James Thirlwall is English, while her mother Norma Badwi is partly Yemenite and partly Egyptian. The maternal grandparents of Jade Thirwall, Mohammid Badwi, and Amelia Aziz, met and married in South Shields, where a Yemeni-British community has lived for centuries. Jade Thirwall was eventually born in the same town.
Jade grew up in the coastal town of South Shields, Durham, England, alongside her brother Karl David. Her parents separated when she was very young.
Watching music videos with her father awakened the young Jade Thirlwall’s interest in singing and performing. She started singing when she was just 6 years old and so she enrolled at Steps Dance & Fitness, a dance school in South Shields.
She completed her secondary education at St Wilfrid’s Community College where she participated in many singing competitions. The talented singer had a delicate stature even as a teenager, which earned her the nickname “Pickle”.
For her first audition in season 5 of The X Factor, Thirlwall sang a cover of I Want to Hold Your Hand, the Beatles’ first number one hit in the US. This year she could only get as far as boot camp. In 2010 she performed again as a solo artist, without success.
Not deterred by her earlier failures, Thirlwall repeated an audition for the third time in 2011. Alone she didn’t get along much better, so in 2011 she joined forces with Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock to form the all-girl group “Little Mix”. The quartet participated as a group and went all the way to win the 8th season of the British version of The X Factor.
After the competition, the group signed up with Syco Music, a record label owned by X Factor judge Simon Cowell. The group also signed a joint US contract with Columbia Records.

The huge success that followed their X Factor success earned them a nomination as Band of the Year at the 2012 Glamour Women of the Year Awards. Even though they did not win this first nomination, the group remained consistent in their industry, and in 2014 they were nominated again and eventually received the award.
The group also won 2 Teen Choice awards in 2015 and 2016 and they opened for the Dangerous Woman tour of American pop singer Ariana Grande.
