Ivan Perisic is obviously not the only Croatian-born player in the Italian football club Internazionale or Inter Milian, as many like to call him, but the club is home to another Croatian, Marcelo Brozovic, who also plays for the Croatian national team together with Ivan.

Perisic, a graduate of the football academy of Hajduk Split and Sochaux, who plays as a winger, also functions as an attacking midfielder or second striker.

He achieved fame during his work for Belgian club Brugge, where he was voted top scorer in the Belgian professional league and Belgian Footballer of the Year 2011. After a great performance with the Belgian team, he moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2011. After winning the Bundesliga 2011-12 with the club, he moved to VfL Wolfsburg in 2013 for a whopping 8 million euros.

After two and a half seasons with the German team and winning the DFB Cup final in 2015, he signed a five-year contract with Inter Milian for 16 million euros in transfer money.

Ivan Perisic also represented Croatia at several international tournaments, including Euro 2012, Euro 2016, 2014, and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

A Brief Bio

Perisic was born on 2 February 1989 in Ante and Tihana Perišic. He started playing football at an early age and later played in the youth section of the Croatian club Hajduk Split, for which he grew up as a promoter.

In the summer of 2006, French club Sochaux paid 360,000 euros to have him in their team, although a number of other clubs such as Hamburger SV, Anderlecht, Ajax, and PSV showed interest in him. Ivan Perisic was a member of the Sochaux youth team that won the Coupe Gambardella in 2007.

In 2009 he was loaned to the Belgian league club Roeselare for six months.

League Career

After the 2008/09 season, Perisic was associated with the Belgian team Anderlecht and the German team Hertha BSC, where he was already on trial. However, it was Club Brugge who finally bought him from Sochaux for a transfer fee of 250,000 euros and signed him on a three-year contract.

His first appearance for the club was in an opening game against Genk, where Ivan Perisic scored his first goal for the team. He also scored two goals in the next two matches he played. He scored a total of nine goals in 33 league matches in which he participated, including eight appearances in the UEFA Europa League campaign, where he scored four goals.

When his three-year contract with the Belgian team expired, he signed a new contract that would keep him with the club until 2015. The next season (2010/2011) he scored 22 goals, making him the top scorer and player of the year. In one of the matches played against Charleroi, he scored the four goals that guaranteed victory in that match.

In May 2011, the German club Borussia Dortmund paid a transfer fee of 5 million euros to include the young Croatian in its team. He made his debut in a match against Hamburger SV, which ended in a 3-1 victory. In January 2013 Ivan Perisic signed an 8 million euro contract with German club VfL Wolfsburg. About a week later he scored his first goal for the club in a friendly match with Standard Liège. Perisic finished this season, scoring ten league goals and securing the second-best place in the team behind Ivica Olic.

In August 2015, he moved to the Italian club Inter Milian under a five-year contract with a transfer fee of 16 million euros. He has been assigned squad number 44 and is currently playing his third season with the club.

International Career

Ivan has played internationally for Croatian teams in the U-17, U-19, U-21, and the senior national team. He was part of the squad that played for Croatia in the 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifiers, scoring two goals in the process.

In 2011, he played for the senior national team for the first time in a match against Georgia, and the following year he was accepted into the squad for UEFA Euro 2012.

In the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, he competed in 12 matches and scored his first international goal in a match against Belgium that ended in a 1-1 draw. Ivan Perisic was eventually inducted into the squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

During the Euro 2016 qualifiers, he scored six goals in nine games to become the team’s top scorer and represented the nation in the tournament.

At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Perisic scored the second goal in a group match against Iceland to advance to the knockout rounds.

In the semi-final match against England, he scored the equalizer in the second half and Ivan Perisic also prepared Mario Mandžukic’s goal. The goal scored in the second half of extra time became Croatia’s ticket to the World Cup finals against France.

In 2012 Perisic married his long-time girlfriend Josipa, with whom the duo had been together since high school.

They are parents of two adorable children, Leonardo and Manuela. Leonardo was born on October 9, 2012, and Manuela joined them on July 28, 2014.
