There are a thousand and one ways to become famous. For Agnes Hailstone and her husband, the documentary series National Geographical, Life Below Zero, was the genesis of their popularity. When the adventure and reality television series, which was first released in May 2013, gained widespread attention because it depicted the harsh living conditions of people in remote areas of Alaska, Agnes, and her entire family achieved celebrity status.

Although we cannot yet certify this, it is assumed that Agnes Hailstone was born on June 14, 1971. Although it is also claimed that she was born in 1972 and that her name Agnes was inspired by the tropical cyclone Hurricane Agnes, these claims can hardly be substantiated, as details of Agnes’ early life are shrouded in mystery.
Hardly anyone can tell you anything about her parents, siblings, family background, or about her life before Life Below Zero. Nevertheless, it is known that she is descended from the Inupiaq tribe. Yes, she belongs to the native people of Alaska.

How She Met Her Husband, Chip Hailstone
Like Agnes, Chip is one of the main characters in the National Geographic series. Although many assume that he was the only love in Agnes’ life because she spent virtually her entire life in the most remote regions of Alaska, this is not true, because it is said that Agnes had a serious affair before she met Chip. In fact, several reports report that she even married her first lover. The story tells that things fell apart between her and the unknown husband and they decided to give up the marriage.
So how did she meet Chip? Well, he visited Alaska when he was 19 years old and somehow settled down in Noorvik, although he had no plans for it at first. A few years later, he met this huntress (Agnes) from the Inupiaq tribe, and they started hunting together occasionally. It was only a matter of time before their friendship blossomed into a romance, things got serious, and they settled for marriage.
Agnes’s husband was born in 1961 in Kalispell, Montana, the son of his parents – Mary Lois and Daniel Franklin Hailstone. Admittedly, the man is now widely known as Chip, but after his birth, he was named Edward V. Hailstone. Chip grew up in his hometown in northwestern Montana and learned all the practical skills that helped him survive in the unfriendly, remote areas of Alaska.
Her Children and Family Life
Thanks to Life Below Zero, many have learned a lot about Agnes Hailstone’s family life. It is fairly common knowledge that she and her husband settled on the Kobuk River in the Arctic region of Northwest Alaska, where they all had and raised their children to survive in the rough terrain as they did.
It is also known that the Agnes Chip union produced 5 daughters: Qutan, Tinmiaq, Iriqtaq, Caroline, and Mary. Agnes also had two sons (Douglas and Jon) from her previous marriage, and both are married and have children. In the meantime, her girls have not given up their education to live exclusively in the wilderness. Iriqtaq, for example, completed her high school education and went to college.
