The professional basketball player was born on January 13, 1997, in Rice Lake Wisconsin as the son of John and Holly Ellenson. They are of North American descent and have American citizenship. His father, John, is said to have played two basketball seasons with Marquette between 1986 and 1988, and his mother, Holly, played basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for four years.

Ellenson also has two brothers and one sister who are also basketball players, as his brother Wally was a member of the men’s basketball and athletics teams at Marquette and the University of Minnesota, his other brother Ellwood played basketball at NAIA Valley City State University, while his only sister Ella currently plays at the University of Valparaiso.

He completed high school at Rice Lake High, then moved to Marquette, where he had 33 starts and scored 17.0 per game, with rebounds, blocks, and assists of 9.7, 1.5, and 1.8 respectively. His fantastic performances for the college basketball team earned him high awards, including Big East Freshman of the Year and Big East All-Freshmen Team.

NBA Career

Because of his brilliant performance for his college team, Ellenson decided to suspend the remaining three years of college eligibility and announced that he would participate in the 2016 NBA Draft on April 5, 2016, and was selected by the Detroit Piston on June 23, 2016. He made his professional debut on October 26 of the same year and scored two rebounds within two minutes of being taken off the bench, but the game ended with a 109-91 defeat by the Toronto Raptors.

Henry Ellenson also played in the NBA Development League with Grand Rapids Drive, a subsidiary of the Detroit Pistons. He was drafted, however, and now plays fully for the Pistons with the number 8 jersey. In his two seasons for the Detroit Pistons, Ellenson has played 57 games and has started in 2 of these games.
