Dulce Maria is a Mexican singer, songwriter, actress, and author. She has been involved in the entertainment scene since childhood and has made commercials with over 100 works. However, she has long since left the commercial arena and is a member of several successful music groups, including K.I.D.S. – which is very popular with children -, Jeans, D&D, and RBD, before she recorded her solo performance in 2009. Dulce Maria Bio

She was born on December 6, 1985, in Mexico City, Federal District, Mexico, and named Saviñón by her parents, Bianca Saviñón and Fernando Espinoza, Dulce María Espinoza Saviñón. She has two sisters, Blanca Ireri and Claudia Maria, and is the grandniece of the legendary Mexican painter Frida Khalo. Her ancestry is mixed, consisting of Germans, Mexican Indians, and Spaniards.

Dulce began her career as a little girl of 8 years with television commercials and appeared in the Mexican version of Sesame Street called Plaza Sesamo. Other commercials she appeared in included one for the Mexican furniture store Viana during Mother’s Day. In addition to commercials, she participated in several specials on the Mexican Discovery Kids Channel and worked on soap operas on Televisa.

Singing Career

Dulce became a member of the Mexican music group K.I.D.S. in 1996. After three years she decided to leave the group for personal reasons and form another group with her then-boyfriend Daniel Habif, who was also a member of K.I.D.S: D&D. The duo recorded five songs but went their separate ways shortly after.

After that, she joined the Mexican girl band Jeans in early 2000, until she left in 2002 to shoot her movie Clase 406. She was then cast for Rebelde, whose success brought to life the Latin pop group RBD, made up of Mexican actors and singers: Dulce, Maite Perroni, Christian Chávez, Alfonso Herrera, and Christopher von Uckermann. They were internationally successful from 2004 until their separation in 2009 and were twice nominated for a Latin Grammy Award and won numerous other prizes. They also made 9 studio albums, including records in Spanish, Portuguese, and English, and sold more than 60 million records worldwide, making them the most successful Latin pop group of all time.

They have also collaborated with a number of well-known musicians to create hits. After the dissolution of RBD, Dulce Maria signed with Universal Music in October 2009 and began recording as a solo artist. She has released three studio albums: Extranjera (2010), Sin Fronteras (2014), and DM (2017).

Her first album debuted on number one of the Mexican AMPROFON and she was also the first Mexican artist to be awarded platinum in Brazil. It is also a tribute to the late Tejano singer Selena, entitled Ya No. Her fourth album, entitled Origen, is scheduled for release in 2019.

Acting Career

Since her days in the commercial arena with over 100 commercials, Dulce has appeared in many successful telenovelas, including El vuelo del águila (1994), Nunca te olvidaré (1999), Clase 406 (2003), Rebelde (2004), RBD: La Familia (2007), Verano de Amor (2009), Mentir para Vivir (2013), Corazón Que Mmiente (2016) – where she was cast in her first antagonist role – and Muy padres (2018).

She gained international fame after having acted in Rebelde as the strong-willed daughter of a famous Mexican singer and received the 2006 TVyNovelas Award for Best Young Telenovela Actress for her work.

Apart from her dominance on television, she is also a fixture on the big screen. In 2010 she portrayed Lupita in the indie film project Alguien Ha Visto A Lupita?
