Gary Cahill Biography

It was in the northeast English town of Dronfield in Derbyshire, England, where the objective defender was born on 19 December 1985. Although he is British, he is also has Irish descent thanks to his grandparents.

He was raised by his parents. Since childhood, Cahill has always loved football and supported Wednesday in Sheffield.

Club Football Career

Although the captain has made a name for himself at Chelsea F.C., he has come a long way since playing his youth football for AFC Dronfield, which he left in 2000 to join Aston Villa.

In 2004 he had already begun his senior international career with the same team but was later sent on loan to Burnley, where he played until 2005. His next step was a loan to Sheffield United, whom he supported as a child and for whom he played from 2007 to 2008. When his loan expired, the central defender was sold to the Bolton Wanderers.

Having played 130 games and scored 13 goals, Cahil made his big move from Bolton to Chelsea in 2012 for a fee estimated at nearly £7 million. Gary Cahill first wore the jersey for the English team in 2004 when he played for the U-20 team. In 2007 he was promoted to the U-21 team and in 2010 he was called up to wear the nation’s colors with the senior team.

He played for the senior national team at both UEFA Euro 2012 and the 2014 FIFA World Cup, where the team failed to make it through the group stage. Before the defender was called up to play at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, he had already played 58 matches for the country, scoring 4 goals in the process.

In the tournament, where the Three Lions finished fourth, Gary was only allowed to play one match in the group stage against Belgium.
