The name Gary Barlow is no stranger to the media and music industry. The media icon is a British singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor: he is best known as the leader of the popular British pop band Take That and as a juror for the talent shows The X Factor UK and Let It, Shine.

Gary Barlow Bio (Age)

Gary Barlow was born on January 20, 1971, in the market town of Frodsham, Cheshire, England, the son of Colin Barlow (father) and Marjorie Barlow (mother). As the second child of the family, he has a brother named Ian Barlow.

He attended Weaver Vale Primary School and enrolled at Frodsham High School in 1982.

Gary is said to have been fascinated by music from a relatively young age: At the age of 10 he trained in all kinds of pianos, keyboards, and music production, and at 15 he took part in a Christmas carol competition show at the BBC’s Pebble Mill at One.

The competition in which Gary took part brought him an invitation to West Heath Studios in London to record his song. There he was inspired to perform at the Northern Club Circuit, singing cover versions and his own songs and later earning his first gig in Wales at Connah’s Quay Labour Club for £18 per Saturday night performance.

From then on Gary began touring and performing in England before he was discovered by Nigel Martin-Smith: a casting agent who hired him in 1989 to form a boy band called “Take That”.

Nigel decided to use Barlow as the lead singer of the band after he was impressed with his vocal and songwriting skills, which included self-written material – an early demo tape of Barlow’s “A Million Love Songs”.

Take That’s debut album was released in 1992 under the title Take That & Party, marking the beginning of Gary Barlow’s success story with the band, which culminated with the release of Everything Changes and Nobody Else.

In 1996 Gary Barlow went solo when the band decided to take a break. He sang ‘Love Won’t Wait and ‘Forever Love’; both were number one singles in the UK. His album “Open Road” was also a hit on the charts. Other albums and singles included top hits such as “The Circus Progress”, “How Deep Are Your Love”, “Patience” and many more.

As one of the UK’s most successful songwriters, Gary has written fourteen number-one singles and twenty-four top 10 hits; and as a solo artist, he has had three number-one singles, six singles that made it into the top 10, and two number one albums. In addition, he had seventeen top five hits, twelve number-one singles, and seven number one albums with taking That.

Gary Barlow has sold more than 50 million records worldwide and has won many awards in his career, including six Ivor Novello Awards from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors and an award for outstanding service to British music.

Besides the band, Gary is also a television personality and actor. In 2011 he became the main juror for the television series The X Factor – in this role he remained in 2012 and 2013 until he resigned to continue his solo career – and served as a juror for Let It Shine in 2017. He also starred in the ITV1 drama “Heartbeat”.

In 2012, Gary was honored for his phenomenal success around the world at the Queen’s Birthday Honors 2012, coupled with his efforts to raise money and awareness for various charities. He was appointed by the Queen as Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for “Services to the Entertainment Industry and Charities”.
