Frank Mason was born on April 3, 1994, in Petersburg, Virginia. He grew up with his large family in Petersburg. His father was Frank Mason II and his mother was Sharon Harrison. His full name is Frank Leo Mason. Shortly after his birth, his father was arrested for cocaine possession, and his mother, Sharon Harrison, had to move with her family. They moved to Pin Oaks, Petersburg.

Mason attended St. Petersburg High School and there he began to make a real impression on the court. His total score in four years of 1,901 points is only surpassed in school history by the NBA Hall of Famer Moses Malone. His trip to college was a bit tricky as he failed in a government class that prevented him from going to Towson University in Maryland.

Mason attended the Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Virginia, to make up for his failed class, but he was soon offered a scholarship from the University of Kansas after he was discovered by Kurtis Townsend, the assistant coach of Kansas, who played in the Amateur Athletic Union.

In his first year, he averaged 5.5 points, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 rebounds per game, but in his second year, Mason had significantly improved these scores with an average of 12.6 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game. He was also named to the second team of the All-Big 12.

The next year, his junior season, Mason kept the stats stable with a 0.3 point increase and 0.7 assists added to his stats from the previous season. That same year, he was also appointed to the All-Big 12 All-Defensive team. The 2016-17 season was his best season as a Collegiate so far.

He made Big 12 history when he became the first player to average 20 points and 5 assists per game. The awards he received were numerous. He finished the regular season as the unanimously voted Big 12 player of the year. The family of Frank Mason III is large. His father is Frank Mason jr. and his mother Sharon Harrison. Mason has a total of 7 siblings, who all grew up in Pin Oaks. It was here that Frank Bernard met Gregory Sr., his mother’s boyfriend, who was the supreme court judge. He was known in the community as “Freako” because of his skills.
