Eric Hosmer Bio

Eric Hosmer was born on October 24, 1989, in the southern part of Miami. He grew up practically in Coopper City and was greatly encouraged by his family since he became interested in baseball. To develop his skills, he made practice swings using the Tony Gwynn tee-ball bat. He also learned extensively by watching games of the Florida Marlins team, focusing on the team’s batting techniques. When he attended high school at the American Heritage School in Plantation, Florida, Eric Hosmer had to practice up to seven hours a day.

To further his future career, his family enlisted the expertise of a hitting instructor, Badimir Marero, who helped him fine-tune his skills. Eric soon joined a number of Little League baseball teams with which he won several state championships. In his second year of life, his growth, which increased by eight centimeters, made him a powerful contender for the job. By the time he entered his senior year, he had hit a total of 11 home runs and hit .470. His performances right out of high school brought him a lot of hits on YouTube when his games were uploaded. Before graduating high school in 2008, the Miami Herald twice named him Florida Baseball Player of the Year and he also received the Connie Mack MVP award from the American Amateur Baseball Congress.

Professional Career

His incredible performance caught the attention of twenty MLB scouts and subsequently earned him a scholarship to play college baseball at Arizona State University. He planned, however, to accept Arizona’s offer only if his hopes of an MLB draft failed, but luckily for him, he was drafted by the Kansas City Royals on August 15, 2008, for a $6 million contract, a record-breaking contract for any election, signed by the Royals at the time.

In 2012, during his spring training, Eric Hosmer recorded a batting average of 0.714 and led all players with a total of 29 RBIs. This performance was praised by George Brett, a player in the Royals Hall of Fame. Eric was hyped by the Kansas City media as the “face of the franchise”, as the “next future sports star” of the city. In his game against the L.A. Angels on first base on opening day, he hit a home run that earned him a 6-3 victory. The next day, however, he struggled when he hit below 0.200 in the first few weeks. This led to a painful defeat of 11 games for the Royals in the 2012 season.

At the end of the season, Eris Hosmer had 14 home runs, a slash line of 0.232/.304/.359, and 60 RBIs. Later, on February 19, 2018, he would sign a record-breaking eight-year contract with the San Diego Padres worth $144 million. Due to the passing away of his former Royal teammate, Yordano Ventura, that same year, he decided to change the number of his jersey to number 30 in honor of his memory. Eric then started his first season with the San Diego Padres with a total of 18 home runs, .253 goals, and 69 RBIs.
