Elizabeth Warren Bio

This U.S. Senator was born on June 22, 1949, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, into a middle-class family consisting of her father, Donald Jones Herring, and his wife, Pauline Reed. As siblings, she has three older brothers with whom she grew up in Christian Methodist doctrine.

As she grew up, her family faced great financial difficulties because her father’s heart attack when she was 12 years old cost her a lot of money for medical bills, more importantly, the family’s car was stolen because they could not pay back a loan they owed. To supplement her meager income, Elizabeth’s mother took a job in the Sears catalog ordering department while she herself worked as a waitress in her aunt’s Mexican restaurant. However, despite the difficulties, Elizabeth Warren was born with a lot of potentials and she began to show it in her school.

Education and Career

Elizabeth was a student at Northwest Classen High School, where she was a member of the school’s debate team. At the age of 16, she won the State High School Debating Championship and also a debating scholarship from George Washington University. The teenager enrolled in college and began studying there for the next two years before dropping out to marry her high school sweetheart, Jim Warren.

As an expert in bankruptcy and commercial law, she was appointed in 1995 to advise the National Bankruptcy Review Commission, where she worked tirelessly for years. In 2008, the majority leader in the U.S. Senate, Harry Reid, appointed her to chair the five-member Congressional Oversight Panel that oversees the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act, to which she provided monthly reports evaluating the bailout and related government programs. In 2010, former U.S. President Barack Obama appointed her as Assistant to the President and Special Advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury for the Office for the Protection of Consumer Financial Interests, whose establishment she supported.

Native American Controversy

Elizabeth Warren’s Native American controversy dates back to when she was just starting out as a politician. Her then-Republican opponent in the Senate, Scott Brown, accused her of fabricating a Native American heritage to gain an advantage in the labor market. Similarly, her former colleagues challenged Scott’s claims that her ancestry had played a major role in her employment. She came up again in the 2012 Massachusetts Senate campaign and the 2016 presidential campaign, and incumbent President Donald Trump described her as “Pocahontas.

Is she an Indian then? Warren’s main response was her claim that her mother and grandmother told her and her siblings that her family had Cherokee and Delaware heritage. Her brother also contributed to this allegation, but there are no documents to prove that her family has such an inheritance. She has also repeatedly insisted that she has never used her claim to Native American heritage to gain an advantage. There was also no concrete evidence that she used her Native American claims to gain an unfair advantage in obtaining teaching positions.
