Ed Mccaffrey Bio, Wife, Sons, Family, Net Worth, Height

One of the toughest and most reliable wide receivers in the National Football League (NFL), Edward Thomas McCaffrey, widely known as Ed McCaffrey, is probably one of the most popular players in the game. Although he has retired from professional American football, where he played as a wide receiver for thirteen seasons, winning three Super Bowl rings, Ed McCaffrey still holds the reins as a coach for upcoming champions and outstanding players in the arena.

McCaffrey played his college career at Stanford University, where he was honored in the first team of the All-American Honors. He was drafted by the New York Giants in 1991 and also played for the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos, where he set a record for the most receptions in a season with 101 receptions in 2000.

Interestingly enough, his sons followed him on the field, making a name for themselves as the best in the sport with their performances in high school and beyond. Here is a look at his biography, family, fortune, and other facts.

Ed Mccaffrey’s Bio

The former Bronco Wide Receiver was born in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania on August 17, 1968, the eldest of five children of Ed Sr. and Elizabeth McCaffrey. His siblings include two brothers – Billy McCaffrey (a retired professional basketball player) and Michael, a former basketball player from Duke and Vanderbilt College – and two sisters, Monica from Georgetown University Women’s Basketball and Meghan.

McCaffrey not only wowed his high school audiences as a football player, but he was also an outstanding basketball player. He attended Allentown Central Catholic High School, where he participated in the East Penn Conference in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. In basketball, he averaged 21.4 points in his graduation season and ended his career with a school-record of 1,637 points. His team, the Vikings, also won a national championship title in 1984 and 1986.

Ed McCaffrey, who comes from a family where hard work is revered and education is valued, excelled as a student while he himself was able to achieve success on the pitch. His academic and athletic abilities earned him a ticket to Stanford University in California, where his college career began. One of the highlights of his college career was his selection as an All-American in his final year of study.

Career

He was drafted by the New York Giants in the third round in 1991 and realized his dream of becoming a professional footballer. After three years with the Giants, he signed a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers in 1994. Although his playing time was limited – it was only one season – his contributions count. Thanks to his reliable and important roles, the 49ers won their fifth Super Bowl title.

The following season, he found a home with the Denver Broncos, where he became a first-class and reliable target for quarterback John Elway, who led the game’s offense. During his time on the team, Ed McCaffrey proved to be an asset. He became the 1,000-yard receiver with a compilation of 1053 yards in 64 catches in 1998 and repeated his efforts in 1999 and 2000 with 1,083 yards in 71 catches and 1,317 receiving yards in 101 catches (setting a record for most receptions).

In addition, the Broncos won their first two Super Bowl championships in 1998 and 1999, and a third for Ed. He also made his Pro Bowl appearance in 1998. He was the second of the wide receiver duo with teammate Rod Smith, who each scored 100 receptions in the same season in 2000; the only second duo from the same team.

After a series of injuries that left him disabled, he gave up and retired at the end of the 2003 season on 29 February 2004. He ended his career with 565 receptions for 7,422 yards, 55 touchdowns, and 185 games with the number 87.

Before the end of his football career, he began working as a coach. In the summer of 2000, he coached youth soccer camps and founded Sports camps, SportsEddy in 2011 consisting of soccer, lacrosse, football, baseball, and basketball camps. He also invested some of his energy in charitable and entrepreneurial courses.

The football family is not only known for their athletic skills, but also for their positive charitable spirit and their great commitment to charity. Ed and Lisa established the McCaffrey Family Foundation, which helps children in academic or financial need due to medical situations.

In partnership with the Global Down Syndrome Foundation, he runs cheerleading camps for people with Down Syndrome, the Ed McCaffrey football camp “Dare to Play” and the “Dare to Cheer”. On the entrepreneurial front, Ed McCaffrey has his own spice brand – Ed McCaffrey’s Rocky Mountain Horseradish and Ed McCaffrey’s Spicy Brown Mustard, which is sold in grocery stores in Colorado and Nebraska.

He was named head football coach of Valor Christian High School at Highlands Ranch in Colorado in February 2018 and is the school’s third coach.

Family, Wife, Sons

It is true that we are all gifted, but if there is a trend towards champions in a family, then the genes and traits should also be appreciated. The McCaffrey family is no stranger to producing champions, and interestingly enough, not just from them. Not only is his wife a great athlete of her time, but she also comes from a family where athletics is revered and played.

Ed McCaffrey is married to Lisa Sime, and together they have four sons who also play football.

As mentioned earlier, Ed’s siblings are accomplished athletes, as is his wife’s. Lisa’s father, David Sime, was a three-star athlete in basketball, baseball, and football at Fair Lawn High School in northern New Jersey in the 1950s and was an Olympic sprinter who won a silver medal in 1960. He also holds a world record in six sprint competitions between 1956-66, although he is now an eye surgeon in Miami. Her brother Scott Sime was a state wrestling champion and all-state footballer at Coral Gables High School in Florida and played as a starting fullback in Duke.

Lisa Sime set the school record for the 100-meter run and played tennis four times at Ransom Everglades High School in Florida. She was also skilled at throwing the football into the net, scoring 56 goals in her career and landing a mug shot in Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd in 1986. She also spent three years as a football starter at Stanford University (1987-89), where she met Ed and was the Cardinal’s second-best scorer in 1988.

Ed and Lisa’s sons include Max (born 17 May 1994), Christian (born 7 June 1996), Dylan (born 25 March 1999), and Lukas. Max is a wide receiver with the San Francisco 49ers, Christian was a running back for the Stanford Cardinal and runner-up in the 2015 Heisman Trophy, and was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft.

The third son, Dylan, a graduate of Valor Christian High School (VCHS) in 2017, was a four-star quarterback there. In three of the four years he played for his school, his team won the Colorado Class 5A State Championship (5A is the highest of the five classes). Today he plays college football at the University of Michigan. His younger brother Luke is a 2017-2018 second-year student at VCHS but has already received offers from the University of Michigan and the University of Nebraska. In June 2018, the four-star recruit was the number one quarterback with a double threat to 247 sports at the University of Nebraska for the full year 2019 in Colorado.

Although the boys are gifted with great athletic talent, they were taught that responsibility comes with the ability and what they learned from their parents; hard work, dedication, loyalty, discipleship, selflessness, and sacrifice certainly pay off.
