Beautiful, versatile, and award-winning actress Drew Barrymore, who was named one of Hollywood’s 100 most beautiful young women in 2003, was born on February 22, 1975, in Culver City, California, in the United States of America. Born into a family of entertainers, she achieved fame as a child. In an interview with Oprah when she was fifteen years old, she described the feeling of being overweight, alone and inadequate, with a busy mother who had no time and paid no attention to her psychological needs as a child, as the factors that led her to assist with drinking and other vices. Drew’s parents, the actor John Drew Barrymore and Jaid Barrymore married in 1971 and divorced in 1984 after thirteen years together, but little Drew remained in the care of his mother. Their mother, Jaid, was born on May 8, 1946, in Brandenburg, West Germany, and their father, John Barrymore, was born on June 4, 1932. Together with his father and his siblings he was active in the film business of the family.

After their divorce, John became absent from Drew’s life and struggled with alcohol addiction for years until he ran out of money and was diagnosed with cancer. Since he had no money to support himself, Drew Barrymore took care of him until his death in November 2004.
