Mehmet Cengiz Dr OZ has gained considerable popularity and fame as a television personality since he appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show in 2004. The Turkish-American, popularly known as Dr. Oz, has made a name for himself as a television personality and author. He also wears a few other hats; he is a cardiothoracic surgeon and professor at Columbia University.

The doctor has also appeared on other popular live talk shows such as Larry King Life. Mehmet Oz was born on 11 June 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio. For his high school education, he moved to Wilmington, Delaware, and enrolled at Tower Hill School. In 1982, he graduated from Havard University with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Four years later, he graduated with an MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and an MBA from Penn’s Wharton School.

Since 2001, Dr. Mehmet has served as a professor in the Department of Surgery at Columbia University. At New York’s Presbyterian Hospital he heads the Cardiovascular Institute and the Complementary Medicine Program. He became famous when the doctor allied himself with the queen of the talk show and made his debut on the Oprah Winfrey Show in 2004. He appeared on the show for five seasons and even had his own segment called “Ask Dr. Oz”.

After his time on the show, Dr. Oz made his debut on September 14, 2009, with his own medical talk show, The Dr. Oz Show. The show was released under the patronage of Sony Pictures Television and Harpo Productions of his girlfriend Oprah Winfrey. In January 2018, the daily show went into its 9th edition. Dr. Oz has covered topics such as type 2 diabetes, eating disorders, Alzheimer’s disease, obesity, anti-aging, family medicine, pet care, and a variety of other medical problems.

He also had some popular guests on the show. On September 15, 2016, he had a business magnate and then-presidential candidate Donald Trump on the show to talk about his vision for America’s health.

Mehmet is also an accomplished author. A co-author with Michael F. Roizen, his You series consists of five books, all of which are New York Times bestsellers. The series debuted with You: The Owner’s Manual with the fifth and final part You: Having a Baby, published in 2009 under Free Press. Mehmet also writes for Esquire Magazine, where he has a regular column, and also for O, The Oprah Magazine.

This guy has received a wealth of recognition in the form of nominations and awards for his contributions to the healthcare industry. Amidst a myriad of Emmy Awards he has received since 2010, he has also received a Freddy and a Silver Telly Award for his television series Transplant! The author and medical enthusiast also received a National Magazine Award for Personal Service for his 2009 article “Retool, Reboot, and Rebuild”.

In 2008, he was ranked 44th on Time Magazine’s list of “100 Most Influential People,” he was also included in Esquire Magazine’s list of “75 Most Influential People of the 21st Century,” Time Magazine’s list of “100 Most Influential Harvard Graduates” in 02138, and more.

For all his good work, the doctor has also put himself in his place when it comes to certain sensitive issues. In 2011 he caused controversy when he questioned the dangers of arsenic in apple juice. He even commissioned an independent company to carry out some of the research. However, the results of his research were denounced by the FDA and major consumer companies such as Nestle.

In one episode of his talk show in 2012, he proposed a reparative therapy for homo- and bisexuals. He received overwhelming backlashes from mental health boards and various national pro-LGBT groups.

Mehmet was born the son of Turkish immigrant parents. His father Mustafa was granted a scholarship to enter the United States for his medical training. His mother Suna comes from a wealthy family and also gave birth to two daughters, Seval and Nazim.

In 1985 Dr. Oz married his wife Lisa Lemole. Like her husband, she is a writer, producer, and television personality. Lisa is a frequent co-host of the Dr. Oz show on Oprah and Friends XM radio shows. Together the couple has four children. Their eldest child, Daphne, has also followed in her parents’ footsteps and is pursuing a career as a writer and television presenter.
