From the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the Oakland Raiders, Doug Martin has largely explained why he was selected in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Although this running back only joined the Raiders in March 2018, it is expected that his wealth of experience would help improve the Men in Black’s lot.

Doug started out as a rookie in all 16 games for the Buccaneers and ultimately helped the team set a 7-9 record. With 1,454 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, he improved several franchise records and made his name in NFL history as the first player to complete three rounds of over 45 yards in a single game. He is also documented as the second running back in league history to score 4 touchdowns and over 250 yards in a single game.

Considering Martin’s four years of college with the Broncos at Boise State, his remarkable performance during his NFL rookie campaign came as little surprise to many. He ended his college career with a massive statistic of 43 touchdowns and 3,431 stormy yards.

Injury, Why Was His Suspended?

Like most athletes, Martin was held up by injuries in his career. For example, in the 2013 season and sometime in October, he injured his shoulder in a game against the Atlanta Falcons. He left one game after suffering a hamstring injury in 2016 and another in 2017 – they were all minor because he recovered quickly.

But then people were concerned when it was reported in May 2017 that the star was involved in a car accident. Fortunately, it turned out later that he only suffered minor injuries in the car accident.

Sometime around December 28, 2016, it circulated that Doug Martin was suspended for four games for violating the NFL drug policy. The Buccaneers later confirmed the suspension in a statement. They said that the running back had tested positive for Adderall.

Although Doug initially wanted to appeal the suspension, he announced that he would be joining a treatment facility and asked for support that would help him fight the personal problem. According to him, he had learned that he could not win the personal struggles alone and should not be ashamed to ask for help.

Sadly, this had an impact on the five-year $35.75 million contract renewal he signed with the team in March of that year. He was finally released from the team in February 2018, but that was the beginning of his one-year contract with the Raiders.
