While his father was a police officer who handled cases of child sexual abuse, the singer suffered the same abuse from a friend who was much older than himself. However, he did not disclose this to anyone, including his mother, who was a nurse, because he did not believe anyone would believe him. He was also afraid that those who believed him would probably think that he was gay. This abuse began when he was 7 years old and did not stop until he finally opened up to his father at the age of 13.
Chester’s problems soon became worse when his parents divorced when he was 11 years old. This, along with his other challenge of suffering abuse, resulted in the future rock legend hating people and sometimes feel the urge to kill them all and flee.
However, with his love for music and his great creativity, he managed to channel his anger and frustration into painting and poetry. Nevertheless, he would later struggle with drug abuse even before he was 18 years old, but as the survivor he was, he would again overcome his addiction.
