Charlie Day is an American musician, screenwriter, comic actor, and film producer. One of his most remarkable acting roles is that of Charlie Kelly in the long-running sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

On the big screen, Day played the character of Dale Arbus in the comedy Horrible Bosses (2011) and also resumed his role in the 2014 sequel to the movie Horrible Bosses 2. He is also known for his leading roles in Monsters University (2013), Pacific Rim (2013), The Lego Movie (2014), Fist Fight (2017), and many others.

Charles Peckham Day was born on 9 February 1976 in New York City. However, he grew up mainly in Middletown, Rhode Island. His father is half Italian and half Irish. His mother is English with tiny degrees of Irish and Welsh descent.

Both his mother and father were academics. His mother Mary (née Peckham) worked as a piano teacher at the Pennfield School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. His father, Dr. Thomas Charles Day, was a Professor of Music at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island.

Charlie Day received his early education at the Pennfield School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. He received his secondary education at the Portsmouth Abbey School. He was a member of the school’s baseball team.

He received his college education at Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts, where he majored in art history. He was a notable member of Merrimack’s student theater organization known as the Onstage. As a college student, Charlie Day enrolled in the summer theater program of the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

After graduating, he gave up a very lucrative bank job in Boston and moved to New York to fulfill his dream of becoming an actor. Charlie is married to the actress Mary Elizabeth Ellis. The duo met in 2001 while working as stage actors. They were married on March 4, 2006, and their first child, a son named Russell Wallace Day, was born on December 15, 2011.

Ellis is popularly known for her recurring role as “The Waitress”, which she plays alongside her husband in the long-running series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (since 2005).
