Angelique Kerber is a professional tennis player born in Germany and former WTA world number one. Angelique Kerber was born on 18 January 1988 in Bremen, Germany. Her mother Beata (born Rzeznik) is originally Polish, while her father Slawomir Kerber is a German from Poznan, Poland. She grew up in the northern German city of Kiel, Germany, together with a sibling, a sister named Jessica. Angelique Kerber has dual German-Polish citizenship and speaks German, Polish, and English.

Kerber started playing tennis at a very tender age and her mother was her manager during her junior career. She made it to the final stages of several tournaments both in Germany and throughout Europe, but it was not until 2003, at a time when she had already made her professional debut, that she did not win a junior title.
