Andrew Cuomo is an American Democratic Party politician who is an author, lawyer and, as of January 1, 2011, the 56th Governor of New York. His political career goes back to his time as his father’s campaign manager – when his father was governor of New York for three terms.

He was born on December 6, 1957, in Queens Borough, New York, where he grew up as the eldest son of his parents of Italian descent. His mother is Matilda (née Raffa) and his father, the late Governor Mario Cuomo, was a lawyer before he took over the leadership of the state.
A graduate of Fordham University and Albany Law School at Union University, New York, Cuomo entered politics as his father’s campaign manager. He also practiced his profession as an assistant district attorney in the city before he went into the private sector. He is the founder of HELP USA, the housing company for the less privileged, and later the New York City Homeless Commission (1990-1993).
He has held various government offices, including Assistant Secretary of Community Planning and Development during the Clinton administration (May 28, 1993 – January 29, 1996), 11th Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (January 29, 1997 – January 20, 2001), 64th Attorney General of New York (January 1, 2007 – December 31, 2010), and won the 2010 gubernatorial election for the 56th term as Secretary of State.
Governor of New York. After his second term expired, he ran for a third term as governor in the 2018 gubernatorial elections in New York. After the primary, which was contested by 93% of the precincts, Cuomo won with 65% of the votes against 35% of the votes of his opponent, the actress, and activist Cynthia Nixon.
