We all know their family of screens – the Pritchetts and the Dunphys – from the mockumentary family sitcom “Modern Family”. Over the years they have not only entertained us but also inspired us. Many have seen her spend her days as Gloria Pritchett, and we love her. But today we’re going to shake off her TV reality and take a look at Sofia Vergara’s modern family from real life.
An Overview Of The Actress’ Life
Where It All Began For Sofia Vergara
The Vergara family has its roots many years ago in Barranquilla, Atlantico, Colombia. From there they have spread to other parts of the world where they have achieved not only fame but also wealth. They have strong Roman Catholic roots and are held together by more than just blood; they are strongly connected by love.

Sofia Vergara was born on July 10, 1972, and grew up with her large Latin American family in South America. She has five siblings and a large number of cousins. Sofia was never without company as a child; she was always surrounded by loving relatives throughout her childhood, as her family is large but closely connected; the Vergara dynasty, we must admit. They have all managed to stick together over all these years, despite the unrest in Colombia and the many sufferings they must have endured as a unit, including the loss of loved ones.
The actress has quite a large family, and it would take a while to review each person today. So we narrowed the search down to her immediate family, including her parents, siblings, son and husband. Here’s a list of all her family members.
First, her mother and father are Margarita Vergara Dávila de Vergara and Julio Enrique Vergara Robayo; and they are divorced. The star has two brothers, Rafael and Julio Vergara, and two sisters, Sandra and Veronica Vergara. Then there is her husband and son, Joe Manganiello and Manolo Gonzalez-Ripoll Vergara.
A Breakdown Of Sofia Vergara’s Large Family
The Vergara Patriarch: Julio Enrique Vergara Robayo
Sofia was the child of a cattle rancher. Just like in ABC’s Modern Family, where Jay Pritchett is the head of the family, Sofia’s father, Julio Enrique Vergara Robayo, was the head of the Vergara family.
He was born in 1948 and spent most, if not all, of his life in his hometown of Barranquilla. As a successful livestock farmer, he earned enough to feed his extended family. He was married to Margarita Vergara de Vergara, and their divorce in 1992 strained his relationship with his daughter Sofia Vergara. However, before his death on 18 December 2009, the duo had found a way to improve their relationship.
Her Mother: Margarita Vergara de Vergara
Margarita was a housewife who was committed to raising and caring for her large family. She married her rich farmer husband at a very young age and was inconsolable when her marriage broke up in 1992. Since then she has overcome this dangerous phase and now lives her best life in the United States with her daughter. In the late 1990s, Sofia took her mother with her, whom she considers her role model and the person closest to the United States in her life.
The Vergara Siblings
Sofía has five siblings, including Sandra Vergara, Julio Vergara, Rafael Vergara, and Veronica Vergara, who are all successful themselves. Unfortunately, her older brother Rafael was murdered in 1998.
Sofia Vergara Sisters
The A-Lister has two sisters: Sandra and Veronica Vergara. Sandra seems to be more in the spotlight out there than her sister Veronica. Sandra is not Sofia’s sister, but her cousin – the daughter of her aunt Margarita – who was adopted by her parents when she was just one month old because her mother (Margarita) was in poor health.
She is an aspiring actress and model who is trying to make a name for herself in the industry. She is also a television actress in the USA. On the other hand, Veronica, although quite unknown, is a singer and has a show in Miami. She is also a mother of two children.
The Vergara Boys
The Emmy nominated actress has two brothers, Julio and Rafael. Her family got into trouble in August 1996 when her older brother Rafael (born 1971) was murdered in an attempt to kidnap him. Two years later Sofia uprooted her life in Colombia and moved to Miami, Florida. He had a daughter named Claudia Daniela Vergara, who is an aspiring fashion designer.
The other Vergara boy, Julio, was born in 1977. After the death of his brother, to whom he was very close, he resorted to drugs to escape his grief. He was arrested several times and finally deported from the USA to Colombia in 2011 after being caught with grass. It is not known what he spends his time with these days.
Sofia Vergara Is A Mother
For those of you who don’t know: Gloria Delgado-Pritchett has a son, a real-life son, and make no mistake, he is not a baby Sofia had her son, and so far her only child, Manolo Gonzalez-Ripoll Vergara, on 16 September 1992 with her first husband, Joe Gonzalez. He graduated from college in 2015, and he has a lot to offer.
After her divorce from the boy’s father a year after his birth, Sofia stayed behind to raise her son alone. Looking at the grown man now, it seems that she has raised a perfect gentleman magnificently.
Manolo is slowly following in his mother’s footsteps, both as a model and as an actor. He made his modeling debut in a photo spread for Paper Magazine and has also tried his hand at acting a little. In 2014 he appeared in a Head & Shoulders commercial with his famous mother. We don’t know about you, but we sense that he is destined for great things.
Who is Sofia Vergara Husband?
The actress was married twice, both times to two different Joes. Her first marriage was to Manolo’s father, her high school lover Joe Gonzalez, whom she married at a young age. She was 18 years old at the time. Two years after their marriage, the couple had their son but were divorced shortly afterward.
More recently she was married to an extremely good-looking man, the American actor Joe Manganiello. According to E!News, the good-looking couple first met in July 2014, and their romance heated up right before our eyes in no time.
The power couple was first seen together sometime in July, in the early stages of their courtship; he even attended their birthday party later that month, on July 10th. It was serious from the beginning, as he was not afraid to have dinner with a cross-section of his mistress’ family.

Rumors of an engagement surfaced in August when Sofia was spotted wearing a suspicious sparkler on her all-important finger. The rumors were soon dropped after it became known that the ring and matching necklace were a pattern from her Kay Jewelers So Sofía line. However, in December, Mr. Manganiello put on a real ring.
Finally, on November 25, 2015, the couple, with the support of friends and family, tied the knot and since then they have grown considerably.
Embroiled In A Controversy – The Embryo Lawsuit
Before her romance and finally her second marriage, Sofia had a high-profile relationship with businessman Nick Loeb from 2010 to 2014. They were even engaged for two years. At the height of their romance, the couple decided to create two embryos through in vitro fertilization in 2013 but ended their relationship before the children were born. Their decision turned sour after their separation and led to a legal battle over the future of the frozen embryos.
Nick tried to find a surrogate mother and bring the embryos back to life. Vergara was against this, so her misunderstanding with Nick was taken into account in court. She referred to a contract that they had previously signed on the embryos, which obliged both parties to give their consent to the use of the embryos.
Loeb filed the complaint in Louisiana and Sofia held it against him because he had no connection with the state. A judge in Louisiana dismissed the lawsuit against Sofia Vergara in August 2017 because the court did not have jurisdiction over the frozen embryos because they had been conceived in California. This leaves only one lawsuit left. The ex-couple will continue their lawsuit in Los Angeles. This time Sofia is taking the case against Nick to court.
